| Rick and Louise Whitlock are the Marriage Encounter Ministry Leaders at Newton Fellowship. |
| |
" The Lord impressed on us the need to help families
by strengthening marriages" |
| |
| This Ministry to Marriage/Family has been developing for the Whitlock's since 1995 when they attended the Baptist Expression of Marriage Encounter and becoming involved themselves in Marriage Encounter weekends 1 to 2 times per year. |
| |
| Further training to use Enrich Canada materials, completing the Caretakers Program along with the Skilled Helper course and further studying and training with Family Systems, the Whitlock's answered the Lord's call. |
| |
| As well as their commitment to marriage Encounter, Rick and Louise lead two separate marriage groups through the year. |
| |
| Marriage Encounter is for any married couple who desires to better and strengthen their marriage by deepening their love and understanding of each other. Any marriage, no matter how good, can be improved. Marriage Encounter is primarily designed to make good marriages into great ones. |
| |
| |
| Marriage Encounter is a weekend experience designed to give you and your spouse the opportunity to examine your lives together, both your strengths and your weaknesses. |
| |
| The weekend is an opportunity to look deeply into your relationship with each other and with God in a positive and affirming way. |
| |
| The emphasis of Marriage Encounter is on communication between husband and wife. You spend the weekend together away from children and the distractions of everyday life in order to concentrate on the one person you have chosen to be closest to in this world. |
| |
Marriage Encounter is not a retreat, marriage clinic or counseling session, but a unique approach aimed at revitalizing marriage by helping couples see what their union could be and indeed, should be. |
| |
| |
| Yes. The weekend is oriented strictly to each individual couple. You concentrate on your spouse to such an extent you are hardly aware of the other couples present. After each presentation the husband and wife discuss their personal reflections in the privacy of their room. They do not share any aspect of their marriage with the group. |
| |
| |
| An atmosphere is created on the weekend in which the couple can concentrate exclusively on one another, free of the tensions, pressures and interruptions of the world. The weekend is presented by a team of trained lay couples and a pastoral couple who have all experienced the weekend themselves. These couples are not trained counselors but share their own experiences and deal with issues important to all marriages. They introduce a series of ideas that give the husband and wife a rare opportunity to look at themselves, their marriage, their relationship to God, and their relationship to the world around them. The weekend begins on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and ends on Sunday- evening at 6:00 pm, It is imperative that you be in attendance for the entire weekend. |

| The Marriage Encounter weekend teaches a communication. technique that permits a couple to explore important areas of their relationship in a spirit of love and understanding. This technique will bring them much closer together as husband and wife. Marriage Encounter is a weekend about love. It has been described as "the 48 hours that will change your life". By continuing the newly acquired technique begun on the weekend, husbands and wives continually grow closer together to live more joyful and purposeful lives. It simply asks us to do what we started our marriage doing and have wanted to do all along - love one another. |

| No, The weekend is presented by Baptist couples, but it is open to all. A number of openings are available on each weekend for couples of other faiths. Today more than 7 million couples in countries around the world have experienced the beauty and gift of a Marriage Encounter weekend. |
| |
| |
An initial $45.00 non-refundable registration fee is required to confirm your reservation. Since Marriage Encounter is a non-profit, volunteer ministry financed through couples' donations, this is the only fixed fee. Costs are explained during the weekend and each couple is given the opportunity to make a donation. Weekends are therefore available to all couples, even those unable to cover the costs. |

| "Marriage Encounter gave Shirley and I the opportunity to occasion the deepest, most intiaite exchange of fellings we had known in 20 years...It proved to be one of the highlights of my life. I just wish that everyone who trusts my opinion would now accept this advise: attend a Marriage Encounter weekend at the earliest opportunity" |

| "The weekend rekindled some of the old romantic feelings that we had in our courtship and early on in our relationship, before career and children." |
| |
| |
| "We had time to talk about how we really felt inside, we began to build up a trust and a love that had been there, but slipped away." |
| |
| |
| "Before our weekend, there were many areas in our life that we didn't dare talk about. Our weekend taught us ways to approach these areas without fear of getting into an argument or hurting each other." |
| |
| " We have been amazed at the difference in our house since our weekend three years ago. There is a more calm and loving atmosphere here, not only between us, but also with our children. Even our children are getting along better with each other." |
| |
| "Now I know that marriage is meant to be far more than peaceful co-existence. It is possible to keep right on growing...even after 25 years." |
